Breaking Barriers: Why Mental Health Conversations Need to Fit Into Real Life

In a world where everyone agrees mental health should be a priority, why does getting support still feel so impossible? Between packed schedules, stigma, and resources that feel clinical or time-consuming, too many people are left struggling in silence.

That’s exactly why Calmerry is excited to announce the launch of The Calmerry 15—a new podcast that’s changing how we talk about mental health, one 15-minute conversation at a time.

Starting September with What Matters Most: Suicide Prevention

This September, as we observe National Suicide Prevention Month, The Calmerry 15 kicks off with “Hope in the Hard Stuff: Talking About Suicide with Compassion.” This isn’t just timing—it’s intentional. Suicide prevention conversations are often avoided because they feel too heavy, too clinical, or too scary. But here’s the truth: the most important conversations are often the hardest ones to start.

This debut episode will tackle suicide prevention with the compassion and practical guidance it deserves. It explores how to recognize warning signs, how to start conversations that could save lives, and how communities can create environments where struggling individuals feel safe to reach out. Most importantly, it normalizes these discussions so they become part of our regular mental health vocabulary.

Real Conversations, Real Expertise

The Calmerry 15 is co-hosted byAlbina Galiza, Calmerry’s CCO, and two remarkable advocates who bring both personal experience and professional insight to every conversation:

Lisa Sugarman is a Boston-based mental health advocate, author, and crisis counselor with The Trevor Project. As a three-time survivor of suicide loss and founder of The HelpHUB™, Lisa understands firsthand how crucial accessible mental health resources are. Her work spans from storytelling with NAMI to serving on the Board of Samaritans Southcoast.

Gretchen Schoser is an award-winning podcast host and founder of Schoser Talent and Wellness Solutions. She brings her experience as both a mental health advocate and senior application leader, offering unique perspectives on workplace mental health and practical strategies for daily life.

Together, they create a space where difficult topics are approached with warmth, honesty, and zero judgment.

Why 15 Minutes Changes Everything

“We wanted to create a space where people could have open, stigma-free conversations about mental health,” says Lisa Sugarman. “In every episode, we break down difficult topics with compassion and share real tools people can use right away.”

The 15-minute format isn’t arbitrary. It’s strategic. Mental health support shouldn’t require clearing your entire schedule. Whether you’re commuting, taking a lunch break, or winding down for the day, these bite-sized episodes deliver meaningful insights that fit into real life.

Each month brings a new focus, aligned with national awareness events and the mental health challenges we face throughout the year. From suicide prevention in September to relationship dynamics in February, from women’s mental health in March to LGBTQ+ well-being during Pride Month, The Calmerry 15 addresses the topics that matter when they matter most.

Making Mental Health Accessible for Everyone

“At Calmerry, we believe mental health support should be approachable and accessible for everyone,” explains Albina Galiza. “This podcast is about starting conversations that help people feel less alone and more equipped to take care of themselves and others.”

The Calmerry 15 represents more than just another mental health podcast. It’s a commitment to breaking down the barriers that keep people from prioritizing their well-being. Every episode is designed to be:

  • Concise enough to fit into busy schedules
  • Compassionate in its approach to sensitive topics
  • Practical with actionable strategies for real life
  • Inclusive in covering diverse mental health experiences

Join the Conversation

The Calmerry 15 is now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and SoundCloud. But more than that, it’s an invitation to be part of a community that believes mental health conversations should be as normal as talking about physical health.

This September, as we focus on suicide prevention, we’re not just launching a podcast — we’re starting a movement toward more open, honest, and accessible mental health support. Because when we normalize these conversations, we create space for healing, hope, and real change.

Ready to prioritize your mental health in just 15 minutes? The conversation starts now.
