Emerging Indian poet Debashis Dey presents his much-awaited first collection of poetry, The Edge of Listening: Poems of Silence, Longing, and Return, a deeply meditative work exploring the nuance of quiet reflection and the emotional depths of human experience. Now available in paperback, Kindle, audiobook, and uniquely, as musical adaptations streaming on Spotify, this collection marks a significant entry into contemporary Indian poetry.
Rooted in the natural world and personal memory, The Edge of Listening delicately navigates themes such as silence, grief, love, sensuality, and spiritual presence. It channels the unspoken spaces where language is born from stillness and healing begins. Each poem is paired with original ink-style minimalist illustrations, mostly created by Dey himself, inviting readers into a sensory dialogue between word and image.
Structured into evocative chapters including What the Wind Remembers, Nocturne of the Forgotten, and Before the Light Returns, the book forms a lyrical journey that traverses solitude, yearning, and renewal, encouraging a contemplative pause amidst today’s clamour.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Debashis Dey is a former corporate professional who turned away from urban life to seek solitude and creative inspiration among nomadic communities in the Himalayas. His writing reflects deep spiritual seeking, reverence for nature, and a keen eye for the emotional landscape of memory and silence. Now based in Kolkata, Dey lives surrounded by his family and six cats, continuing to merge his poetic voice with visual art and music.
Critics have lauded The Edge of Listening for its “quiet power and lyrical precision” and described the poems as “vivid, evocative, and quietly profound” (Kalpana Shenoi, former English Lecturer) while recognizing an “underlying music that lingers long after the page” (Raja Chakraborty, poet).
AUTHOR’S NOTE
“Each poem in this collection holds a thread of silence I have lived with. They were never meant to impress, only to express—what could not be held in thought alone. If any of these verses speak to something you’ve quietly carried, I’ll know they’ve done their work.”— Debashis Dey
