Happy as Larry” Official Selection at Worcester Film Festival 2025

Happy as Larry, the latest feature film from award-winning director and screenwriter Hugo Andre, has been officially selected to screen at the upcoming Worcester Film Festival, a British Independent Film Awards (BIFA)-qualifying event, taking place from September 24–27, 2025, in Worcester, UK.

Following its premiere at the Oscar-qualifying Dallas International Film Festival and ahead of its scheduled screening at the prestigious Rhode Island International Film Festival (Oscar, BAFTA, and Canadian Screen Awards qualifying), Happy as Larry continues to build momentum on the international independent film circuit.

Written and directed by Hugo Andre, the film is a dark comedy centered on a disillusioned novelist who travels to the Isle of Skye intending to end his life quietly. His plans are interrupted by Dale—a persistently cheerful and unpredictable stranger—whose outlook on life challenges the protagonist in unexpected ways. The film explores themes of grief, human connection, and emotional renewal with wit and depth.

The cast includes Calvin Crawley, Kevin Walls, Izzy Harradine, and Coral Sinclair. Notably, the film was shot entirely outdoors in Scotland, utilizing natural lighting throughout to enhance its visual authenticity.

Andre, a French-Sicilian filmmaker based in London, is recognized for his emotionally charged storytelling and cinematic realism. He began directing commercials at the age of 16 and has since received over 20 awards for his short film Soul Forest, while earning critical acclaim for his debut feature Makeup. Happy as Larry continues his tradition of visually compelling narratives and character-driven drama.

“It’s an extraordinary honor to have Happy as Larry selected for the Worcester Film Festival. The film’s journey—from concept to its premiere in Dallas and now to audiences in the UK—has been deeply personal. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this story about unlikely connection and quiet transformation with viewers who value emotionally driven, independent cinema,” said Andre.

The film is produced by Lucas A. Ferrara, a New York attorney with longstanding recognition in the legal field. Since 2020, Ferrara has actively partnered with filmmakers globally, contributing to the production of over 175 award-winning titles across short and feature-length formats. His work spans diverse genres and includes Makeup and Happy as Larry (both written and directed by Hugo Andre), 5000 Space Aliens, Help, Manor of Darkness, and Children of the Pines.

“Producing Happy as Larry has been a deeply rewarding experience,” said Ferrara. “Hugo’s ability to weave humor, heartbreak, and humanity into one cohesive narrative is what drew me to the project. Seeing the film resonate with audiences and receive recognition at such esteemed festivals affirms the power of independent storytelling, and I’m proud to have played a part in bringing this vision to life.”

Now in its fifth year, the Worcester Film Festival presents more than 80 independent films across six venues, including the ODEON Cinema. The festival also features educational workshops, filmmaker Q&A sessions, networking events, and an awards gala. It is widely regarded for its role in promoting innovative new voices in international cinema.
