How Helpster Used Technology to Turn Donations Into 2,122 Life-Saving Treatments in 2025

Renowned health-tech charity, Helpster, has released its 2025 Annual Impact Report, detailing how its audit-led technology model converted public donations into 2,122 life-saving treatments across Nigeria, Kenya, and Bangladesh. By using a direct-to-hospital funding system, the organization ensured that low-income patients, including children, adolescents, and pregnant women, received verified medical care across 72 accredited partner hospitals throughout 2025. The report examines how financial barriers continue to delay urgent care in low-resource settings, and how Helpster’s structured verification and payment process kept the average treatment cost at $209 per case.

The data highlights a wider structural problem in global health financing. Out-of-pocket health spending continues to push households into poverty, with billions of people lacking adequate financial protection. In many low-income settings, access to hospital admission is majorly pre-determined by the immediate ability to pay, rather than clinical urgency. In 2025 alone, Helpster reviewed 2,676 medical cases and approved 2,122 for full medical funding. Since inception, more than 3,000 patients have received funded care through its platform; a model built on financial transparency, rapid case validation, and accountable disbursement.

These outcomes align with global efforts under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which calls for universal health coverage and reduced mortality from preventable conditions. Financial protection remains one of the most uneven pillars of healthcare systems across parts of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. During the reporting period, the organization funded 380 pregnancy-related complications under its maternal health initiative, where the average cost per case was $311, often covering emergency cesarean deliveries and obstructed labor. In settings where maternal mortality remains closely tied to affordability, structured and rapid funding mechanisms play a critical role in closing care gaps.

“Behind each data point is a family navigating a health crisis with limited financial options,” said Kate Lysykh, CEO of Helpster. “Our priority is ensuring that once a case is verified, funding moves quickly and directly to the hospital providing care. Ensuring that every dollar reaches patients who need it most is central to our mission. Through meticulous auditing, monitoring of financial flows, and risk mitigation, we make certain that publicly generated funds are efficiently channeled to verified healthcare interventions. Looking ahead, we are strengthening these systems further to minimize risk and ensure resources continue to reach underserved communities quickly and transparently.”

Tata Yursha, Chief Operating Officer at Helpster, added, “No family should have to choose between their child’s treatment and their own survival. Helpster was created to make life-saving support simple and transparent. In this report, you’ll see the impact of every act of kindness: whether it’s $311 for maternal care or $212 for a pediatric intervention. Helpster sends funds directly to verified hospitals to make quality medicine accessible.”

As economic pressures, demographic growth, and uneven insurance coverage continue to shape global health outcomes, the speed and accountability of medical financing remain central to preventing avoidable morbidity and mortality. Technology-enabled, audit-backed funding systems offer one pathway toward strengthening financial protection in underserved communities.
