Wedding Industry Is Failing Multicultural Couples — This Startup Filled 80% of the U.S. in Its First Week

Vendor listings on Bolen Bliss now span 80% of U.S. states as the platform targets underserved couples and rising vendor costs

CHESAPEAKE, VA — The wedding industry has quietly failed to keep up with one of its biggest shifts: the rise of multicultural couples.

Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. newlyweds now marry across race or ethnicity, yet many of the largest wedding platforms still treat these couples as a niche rather than the future. At the same time, vendors face rising costs for visibility, with those expenses often passed back onto couples already navigating an increasingly expensive wedding experience.

A new bootstrapped startup, Bolen Bliss, is betting that the gap is larger than most realize. Within its first week after launch, the platform expanded vendor listings in 80% of U.S. states,  an early signal of demand for a wedding marketplace designed to better connect couples and vendors.

Bolen Bliss was founded by Carmen and Zane Bolen, who sold their house to fund the company. Carmen Bolen, the company’s CEO, is an immigrant from Colombia, and the platform was shaped by the founders’ belief that the wedding market has overlooked the needs of modern, multicultural couples for too long.

The company’s approach is straightforward: help couples find vendors who better fit their culture, traditions, language preferences, and overall wedding vision, while giving vendors a more affordable path to visibility.

Featured placements on the platform are intentionally limited, creating a first-mover advantage for vendors who claim their markets early. At the same time, pricing remains significantly lower than traditional platforms, with featured visibility available for less than $9 per month.

That combination of scarcity, affordability, and a clearly underserved audience helped drive early traction out of the gate.

“We didn’t build Bolen Bliss to be another wedding directory,” said Zane Bolen, Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer of Bolen Bliss. “The wedding industry changed. The biggest platforms didn’t.”

The early growth also generated broader visibility for the company. Within days of launch, Bolen Bliss’s traction helped push its founder into one of Crunchbase’s most-watched tiers, signaling increased attention from the startup and investment community.

For a newly launched, bootstrapped company, that level of early expansion is unusual, and it raises a broader question about the wedding industry itself.

Bolen Bliss is betting that the next phase of the market will be defined by platforms that better understand modern couples, reduce vendor costs, and create stronger alignment between the two.

The bigger question may not be how quickly Bolen Bliss expanded, but why the industry left enough room for a new entrant to move this fast.
