73% of Cybersecurity Companies Are Invisible to ChatGPT, New GrackerAI Research Reveals as B2B Buyers Shift to AI for Vendor Selection

San Francisco-based AI visibility platform releases benchmark of 100 cybersecurity companies across six AI engines, exposing a growing risk for software vendors as buyers increasingly rely on tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Microsoft Copilot to research solutions.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A new benchmark study from GrackerAI, an AI visibility and Generative Engine Optimization platform headquartered in San Francisco, has uncovered a structural risk facing the global cybersecurity industry. The research found that 73 percent of cybersecurity vendors received zero citations from ChatGPT when potential buyers asked the AI assistant for vendor recommendations in their own product category.

The findings come at a moment when business buyers are increasingly bypassing traditional search engines like Google in favor of AI assistants. Industry data shows that traffic from generative AI sources grew 1,200 percent year over year, and 40 percent of B2B technology buyers now use AI tools as their first step when researching software solutions. For cybersecurity vendors, where the global market is valued at over $219 billion, the implications are significant. If an AI assistant does not recommend a company by name, that company is rarely considered for a purchase at all.

GrackerAI’s benchmark analyzed 100 cybersecurity companies across six major AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Google AI Overviews, using 250 representative buyer questions. The study found that 78 percent of business buyers will only shortlist vendors they already recognize from AI responses, meaning visibility in AI search has become a direct gatekeeper to the sales pipeline.

The research also follows Adobe’s $1.9 billion all-cash acquisition of Semrush in November 2025, a deal widely viewed as confirmation that Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, has become a strategic priority for businesses competing for online visibility. The global GEO market is projected to reach $17.1 billion by 2034, growing at a compound annual rate of 40.6 percent.

“Cybersecurity founders spent the last decade learning how to rank on Google, and now the rules are being rewritten in real time,” said Deepak Gupta, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of GrackerAI. “If a security buyer asks ChatGPT for the best protection platform and your company name does not appear, you have effectively been removed from the buying process. The good news is that AI search is still early enough that companies who move now can establish citation patterns that compound for years. The window is open, but it will not stay open forever.”

GrackerAI was built specifically to help cybersecurity and B2B software companies solve this visibility problem. The platform monitors how AI engines describe a company versus its competitors, identifies the exact queries where the company is missing from AI responses, and helps marketing teams produce content that AI engines are more likely to cite. The platform ships with a proprietary library of more than 30,000 cybersecurity-specific questions, organized across 10 product categories, and automatically tracks emerging vulnerabilities through real-time data feeds from the U.S. National Vulnerability Database, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the MITRE security framework.

“Each AI assistant has its own way of choosing which sources to cite,” said Govind Kumar, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of GrackerAI. “ChatGPT favors structured authoritative content. Perplexity weighs recent and well-cited sources heavily. Google AI Overviews still draws on traditional search ranking signals. We optimize for the best practices on each model, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, and DeepSeek, so a single piece of content performs across all of them. That is engineering work most general-purpose marketing tools have not done for cybersecurity.”

GrackerAI customers are already seeing significant results. SSOJet, a developer-focused enterprise authentication platform, partnered with GrackerAI and lifted its AI visibility score from 18 percent to 42 percent over six months. Enterprise customer signups grew 287 percent, demo requests from AI-referred traffic grew 412 percent, and the company’s average sales cycle dropped 47 percent.
