Dr. Gregory Mccord Honors Mentorship, Community, and Purpose at Augusta Municipal Golf Course

“THE PATCH” The Patch is a heartfelt true story of how a neighborhood golf course helped shape character, opportunity, and a lifelong commitment to giving back.

Told through the perspective of a “Cabbage Patch Kid,” Dr. Gregory McCord shares his journey growing up in Augusta, Georgia, where a chance opportunity at Augusta Municipal Golf Course known as “The Patch” became a life-changing turning point.

Guided by course manager Mr. Douglas, local golfers, and respected community elders, the golf course became more than a place to play; it became a classroom for discipline, integrity, and perseverance. Inspired by local legend Jim Dent, McCord overcomes obstacles, earns a college golf scholarship, and later returns to “The Patch” as a mentor dedicated to uplifting the next generation.

Warm, honest, and grounded in real-life experience, The Patch highlights how access, guidance, and belief can transform
ordinary spaces into powerful opportunities.
