“The Unfiltered Chapters of Divorce” by Corey Stevens tells the true story of a father’s fight to stay in his daughters’ lives after a family court system he says worked against him.
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Corey Stevens, a former volunteer fire chief, has released his debut memoir, The Unfiltered Chapters of Divorce, now available in ebook and print.
The book recounts Stevens’ divorce and the years-long custody battle that followed — including a no-contact order he says was issued on a single unverified statement, roughly 60 sheriff calls over a four-month span, an arrest on charges that were later dropped, and the eventual loss of the fire chief position he had spent a year building. Stevens ultimately relocated 2,700 miles from California to South Carolina, a move he says was necessary to escape ongoing harassment, not to distance himself from his children.
“This isn’t just a divorce story. It’s a wake-up call,” Stevens said. “I wanted to show what it’s really like when the system treats an accusation as a conviction — and what it takes to keep showing up for your kids anyway.”
Beyond the legal battle, the memoir also follows Stevens’ personal rebuilding — a new relationship, the birth of a fourth daughter, and his continued fight to remain present for the three daughters from his first marriage. Stevens frames the book as part personal story, part call for family court reform, arguing that allegations from either parent should require evidence before they can restrict a parent’s time with their children.
“One man. Three daughters. A broken system,” Stevens said of the book’s throughline. “Because the truth deserves to be heard.”
