FORTUITOUS Brings Powerful True Story of Redemption to VYRE Network

LOS ANGELES – Filmmaker Crystal L. Bass explores a deeply personal story of perseverance and transformation in the upcoming release of the feature film, FORTUITOUS, premiering free worldwide May 15, 2026, exclusively on VYRE Network and the VYRE App.

Inspired by true events and adapted from Bass’ novel Whirlwind, the film explores themes of heartbreak, injustice, healing, and personal redemption. Through one woman’s painful journey, FORTUITOUS reveals how purpose can emerge from life’s darkest moments.

The film features Bass alongside a notable reunion of cast members from the acclaimed HBO series The Wire, including Felicia Pearson, Hassan Johnson, and Tray Chaney. Additional cast members include Clifton Powell, Shannon Ramsey Floyd, Rosalyn Gaines, Dajuan Cannady, and Melody Rodgers.

At the center of the story is Jasmine Carter, a devoted young woman whose life changes dramatically after becoming involved with an undercover dealer and being wrongfully imprisoned. While incarcerated, Jasmine finds guidance and hope through an unexpected mentor. Upon returning home, she begins rebuilding her life — only to later discover that the same mentor has reentered her world in a profoundly personal way as her future mother-in-law.

“I shared my story because we are only as sick as our secrets. I want people to walk away knowing that your past doesn’t disqualify you, it can actually be the very thing that propels you forward,” says Bass.

A native of Baltimore, Bass drew from her own experience of being wrongfully convicted and incarcerated for a crime she did not commit. Determined to reclaim her future, she turned to storytelling and built a career as an author, entrepreneur, and filmmaker dedicated to inspiring others through honest and empowering narratives.

FORTUITOUS marks Bass’ feature film debut as a filmmaker and has already earned recognition on the independent film festival circuit, taking home honors from the Las Vegas Black Film Festival and the Prison City Film Festival, including awards for Best Feature Film, Best Director, and Best Actress.

As a minority-owned and publicly traded streaming platform (OTCID: VYRE), VYRE continues its mission of championing independent creators by providing filmmakers with production resources, worldwide distribution opportunities, and access to broader audiences.

FORTUITOUS premieres on VYRE beginning May 15, 2026 at: VYRE.TV and the VYRE App on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Samsung TV, LG, Sony, iPhone and Android.
