GenBio advances research into bacterial resistance, efflux pump inhibition and potential strategies to address the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance
ALISO VIEJO, CA, UNITED STATES — GenBio Inc. (“GenBio” or the “Company”), a U.S.-based biotechnology company advancing proprietary therapeutic research programs, today announced ResistR™, a new development identity for the Company’s antimicrobial resistance research program.
ResistR™ represents GenBio’s continuing scientific investigation into biologically active compounds and mechanisms that may have potential applications in addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR), one of the most significant and persistent challenges facing modern medicine.
The program builds upon years of scientific research evaluating naturally derived bioactive compounds and their interactions with microorganisms, including research into mechanisms associated with bacterial resistance.
A particular area of interest within the program is efflux pump inhibition.
Bacterial efflux pumps are cellular transport mechanisms capable of removing antimicrobial compounds from bacterial cells. These systems can contribute to antimicrobial resistance by reducing the intracellular concentration of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents.
GenBio’s research has identified activity of interest involving these resistance mechanisms, leading the Company and its scientific collaborators to undertake further investigation into the potential significance of the findings.
