Ian Gillan … Living It Large And Keeping It Cool

You worked so hard. You had so much passion. Thought you were cool. But you dropped out of fashion

“It Would Be Nice” by the Ian Gillan Band

You may be mistaken when reading the lyrics above that Ian Gillan has sometimes found the need to ever follow any sort of trend.  But the fact that he never has … means that he still is…and always will be …in fashion.

In a recent interview, Ian stated that “Relevance is something people chase in this business…trying to be accepted in terms of style or fashion. But from the beginning, the band (Deep Purple) avoided that. We decided not to be fashionable. That may sound strange, but chasing trends only keeps you ‘in’ for a short time. Next year, you’re out. That’s what you see in pop music a lot.

Our kind of music is harder to define, but the key is being true to ourselves. We have to express what’s inside, not follow trends.

Ian’s ‘Talking Gib’rish Tour’ will delve into the mindset of how the voice of rock is still living it large, whilst keeping it cool.   A balancing act that is handled with ease and aplomb by Mr Gillan.
