Integrating Science and Spirituality: An Executive Q&A with Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon on “The Impact Leaders Book”

The modern approach to health and wellness often fragments the individual, treating physical symptoms while ignoring emotional and spiritual well-being. Many women struggle to find sustainable health solutions because conventional personal training and nutrition programs fail to address underlying emotional blocks or spiritual misalignment. This gap leaves individuals feeling disconnected from their personal power and unable to achieve lasting, transformational change.

To address this challenge, The Impact Leaders Book—co-authored by Dr. Iris Wright and Shark Tank‘s Kevin Harrington—highlights trailblazers who are redefining leadership and wellness. Among them is Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon, the founder of Wholistic Fitness NY and a featured leader in the book’s global Women of Impact spotlight. In this interview, we explore her 40 years of expertise and discuss how her specialized methodology bridges the gap between physical fitness, emotional healing, and spiritual alignment to empower women worldwide.

Q: Your selection for the Women of Impact spotlight in The Impact Leaders Book recognizes your extensive contributions to wellness. What inspired you to share your journey alongside other global changemakers in this project?

Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon. :For more than forty years, I have dedicated my life to helping women reconnect with the wisdom that already exists within them. My journey has never been solely about fitness or nutrition. It has always been about healing the whole woman—body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

I chose to participate in this project because I believe women are searching for a different conversation about health. They are tired of being told to simply eat less, exercise more, or ignore the emotional pain their bodies continue to carry. My own life experiences taught me that true transformation begins when we honor every part of ourselves.

Being included among other global leaders allows me to share a message that wellness is not about perfection. It is about remembering who you are, reclaiming your personal power, and embracing every life transition as an opportunity for growth. If my story inspires one woman to believe in herself again, then I have fulfilled my purpose.

Q: You developed the soul-based P.O.S.T. Method (Prescriptive, Observational, Soul-based Training) to help women reclaim their power. How does this method differ from conventional personal training systems?

Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon: Traditional fitness programs often focus exclusively on calories, repetitions, and physical appearance. While movement is essential, it is only one piece of the puzzle.

The P.O.S.T. Method recognizes that the body is constantly communicating with us. Physical symptoms are often expressions of emotional experiences, limiting beliefs, unresolved trauma, or energetic imbalances. Before prescribing a program, I observe the whole person. I look beyond the muscles to understand stress patterns, emotional triggers, lifestyle habits, astrology, numerology, and even the energetic cycles influencing their lives.

From there, every exercise, nutritional recommendation, and wellness practice becomes individualized. My goal isn’t simply to help women lose weight; it’s to help them release emotional weight, rebuild trust in themselves, increase strength, regulate their nervous system, and reconnect with their soul’s purpose. When those pieces align, physical transformation becomes sustainable because it is built from the inside out.

Q: Your platform uniquely blends scientific fitness principles with spiritual practices like Reiki, medical astrology, and numerology. How do you balance these two worlds to create a cohesive health strategy for your clients?

Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon: I have never viewed science and spirituality as opposites. To me, they are complementary languages describing the same human experience.

Science helps us understand anatomy, biomechanics, hormones, metabolism, and the incredible adaptability of the human body. Spiritual practices help us understand purpose, intuition, emotional healing, and energetic awareness. When combined respectfully, they create a more complete picture of health.

Every client receives evidence-based fitness programming rooted in proper movement, progressive strength training, recovery, and nutrition. At the same time, I encourage self-awareness through Reiki, astrology, moon cycles, and numerology because these practices invite women to listen to themselves instead of constantly seeking answers outside of themselves.

My role is not to replace science with spirituality but to bridge them together, allowing women to experience healing that is both measurable and meaningful.

Q: Having helped more than 20,000 women over a 40-year career, what are the most common emotional or mental barriers you see women facing when trying to transform their physical health?

Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon: The greatest barrier is not lack of knowledge—it is lack of self-worth.

Many women have spent decades placing everyone else’s needs ahead of their own. They carry guilt for resting, shame about their bodies, fear of aging, and beliefs that they must constantly prove their value through achievement or caregiving.

I also see women disconnected from their intuition. They no longer trust their bodies because they’ve been taught to silence their emotions instead of understanding what those emotions are trying to teach them.

When women begin strengthening their bodies, they also begin strengthening their confidence. They start setting healthier boundaries, speaking their truth, and making decisions from self-love instead of fear. That is why I often say strength training changes far more than muscles—it changes lives.

Q: Looking forward, how do you plan to leverage the global platform provided by the Women of Impact movement to expand the reach of Wholistic Fitness NY?

Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon: My vision has always been larger than one business. I am building a global movement where women feel seen, heard, educated, and empowered through every stage of life.

This platform provides an opportunity to expand Wholistic Fitness NY by reaching women who are seeking an integrated approach to wellness that honors both science and spirituality. Through my book, The Menopausal Portal, educational programs, international speaking engagements, women’s wellness events, media platforms, and the Blood Sisters Portal community, I hope to create spaces where women discover that healing is not about fixing themselves—it is about remembering their inherent wisdom.

My mission is to leave a legacy that transforms how future generations understand health, menopause, emotional wellness, and feminine leadership. When women become stronger physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, they create healthier families, stronger communities, and a more compassionate world. That is the impact I hope to continue making for years to come.

The insights shared through Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon feature in The Impact Leaders Book emphasize the growing necessity for comprehensive, multi-dimensional wellness strategies. True health optimization requires looking beyond standard exercise routines to address emotional blockage and spiritual clarity. By providing a scalable framework that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit, specialized practitioners enable women to unlock sustainable personal and professional growth.

As the corporate and wellness landscapes increasingly recognize the role of metabolic and emotional health in overall leadership capability, unified healing modalities will become standard practice. Empowering individuals to take control of their physical and internal well-being represents a critical advancement in community health. The work being done through Wholistic Fitness NY provides a clear roadmap for the future of functional, soul-based personal development.
