Kordis Targets Canada’s After-Hours Shift Gaps With AI Staffing Software

By Patrick Underwood, Staffing Operations Analyst, Kordis

Staffing records are not the same as staffing work

Before sunrise, an hourly staffing team can have a complete schedule on screen and still face an uncovered shift. A worker calls out, the client expects a full crew, and the office has minutes, not hours, to respond. Traditional workforce software can show who was booked, which credentials are on file, and where hours belong after the shift. It usually does not make the calls, sort available replacements, or secure a confirmation. That gap between knowing what changed and completing the next action is where much of a staffing operator’s day disappears.

The pressure is especially sharp in light industrial and warehouse work, private nursing and personal support, and banquets, events, and hotels. Demand moves by the shift, a vacancy can become a client problem within minutes, and the person coordinating coverage may also be screening applicants, checking documents, answering worker questions, and preparing payroll. A scheduling grid records the plan. The harder job is keeping that plan intact as conditions change.

Toronto-based Kordis launched publicly in July 2026 to address that operational gap. The company describes its product as AI staffing software for high-volume hourly operations, built inside an Ontario staffing business and designed to work with the accounting, payroll, and hiring tools a shift-based operation already uses. Instead of asking a team to replace the back office, Kordis adds an operations layer that can carry work from one system to the next.

What an AI staffing operations layer changes

The idea is broader than an AI recruiter or an automated scheduler. Kordis combines applicant screening, worker confirmation, shift dispatch, last-minute coverage, document checks, routine worker support, and payroll preparation in one operating workflow. Each function is connected to the same practical outcome: a qualified person arrives for the shift and the resulting hours reach payroll without another round of manual re-entry.

When an applicant enters the pipeline, phone screening can produce a transcript and a score based on the operator’s criteria. Before scheduled work, confirmation calls and texts can identify risk while there is still time to respond. If someone becomes unavailable, automated shift filling can contact eligible workers from the team’s own roster, record each reply, and stop once coverage is secured. At the end of the week, timesheet data can be matched to a payroll-ready export.

This is the key difference between a system of record and an operations layer. An applicant tracking system stores candidate information. A scheduler displays assignments. Payroll software calculates pay. The operations layer acts on the events between those systems, where a missed message, an expired credential, or an unconfirmed worker can turn clean data into an unfilled shift.

Kordis also keeps the staffing team in control of consequential decisions. Rather than treating automation as permission to act without review, the software stages a proposed fix with the supporting context for an operator to approve. That human-in-the-loop model matters in staffing, where suitability depends on availability, role requirements, current credentials, client rules, and the operator’s own judgment.

Why the Canadian focus matters

The product is aimed at Canadian organizations coordinating high volumes of hourly workers, including staffing firms and other shift-driven operations with roughly 25 to 100 active workers in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. Kordis says its workflows account for province-specific operating requirements while allowing teams to keep their current payroll and accounting providers. Its listed founding offer is $249 CAD per month for the first three months, followed by a flat $499 CAD monthly price for operations with up to 100 active workers.

The larger shift is from buying more dashboards to reducing the manual work between them. For an hourly staffing operator, the useful test of AI recruiting software is not how much content it can generate; it is whether applicant screening moves forward, workers confirm, last-minute gaps close, and payroll preparation becomes easier without surrendering final authority. Kordis offers a two-week trial on an operation’s own data, with no credit card required, at https://kordisai.com.
