Lucky Luke is an Edinburgh based artist, penning bedroom pop tracks on a vintage yamaha keyboard. He burst onto the scene last year with “Holy Toad!” and after landing singles on trending indie lists across Soundcloud and Spotify, is set to release his debut album, “Sheep Sky”, on August 6 2026
Inspired by the impossibility of flying animals, the emerging indie artist Lucky Luke emerges with a debut pop album in equal parts inventive and dreamy, and invites listeners to bask in the speculative side of life.
“Sheep Sky”, releasing this summer, builds on a string of successful singles by the Edinburgh artist, which saw success across respected indie and bedroom pop playlists across Soundcloud and Spotify, including Polychroma’s Bedroom Pop, Broken Cloudy King’s Deluxe Indie, and Soundcloud’s Trending Indie, among others.
Recorded between Luke’s flat in Edinburgh, childhood home in Liverpool, and even on the Isle of Eigg off the coast of Scotland, Sheep Sky is an album a long time in the making. With every track written and produced by Luke, using only a home recording set up with a vintage Yamaha keyboard, a broken electroacoustic guitar that is no longer electric, and an AT2020 condenser mic, authenticity and humanity is at the core of the charm of his work. Drawing on personal experiences and spinning them as compelling stories is perhaps driven by Luke’s past background as a speculative fiction writer, before moving into music.
The album is a big moment for Lucky Luke, as it’s the first major album release following many well loved EPs, and adopts a new guitar-rooted sound, a style that has proven especially popular, such as in the deft arpeggios of “Settle Down Boy”, co-written with Luke’s childhood friend, the artist Big Mig, or in the tranquil, acoustic chords of “Pigeon or a Dove” or “Paper Planes”, which feature guest production from Scrumpie and Henshu, respectively.
The album’s sound is inspired by keystone indie artists including Clairo, Steve Lacy and Hers, and is likely to provide comfort, compelling and catchy listening to fans of bedroom pop. One strength, however, of the album, is its range, featuring an old school house track in “April Song” and even a yacht rock anthem “Save it All”, featuring recordings from Luke’s family on guitar, bass and vocals.
Looking into next year, Luke hopes to continue growing an audience, and plans to start a live band playing the local Edinburgh scene, building up experience and providing chances to work even more with other talented artists and producers.
