MVST Launches ZERO, a Rivet-Free Aluminum Carry-On for a Cleaner Era of Travel Design

MVST has launched the ZERO Collection Aluminum Carry-On, a new aluminum-magnesium suitcase designed without exposed rivets. The release marks a new direction within MVST’s aluminum luggage line, bringing a cleaner, more continuous exterior to a category long defined by visible hardware, framed edges, and structural details.

For decades, rivets have been part of the visual language of aluminum luggage. They began as a structural necessity, fastening the shell to the frame, but over time they also became a recognizable design convention. Rows of rivets came to signal durability, craftsmanship, and the familiar look people expect from a metal suitcase.

With ZERO, MVST’s design team chose to challenge that convention. Rather than adding more visible details to communicate strength, the team worked in the opposite direction: removing the exposed rivets while preserving the structure and presence expected from aluminum luggage.

Adding detail to a design is often the easier path. One more component, one more piece of hardware, one more visible construction cue can make a product appear more substantial. Taking something away is harder. Removing a part that has traditionally been there, while maintaining the function it once served, requires rethinking both the structure and the process behind it.

ZERO follows that harder path. The case clears the rivets from the outside, allowing the aluminum surface to read as cleaner, smoother, and more unified. The name came naturally during development, as the team found itself describing the suitcase by what was no longer visible. ZERO became a way to express reduction, restraint, and a more modern approach to aluminum travel design.

The launch arrives at a time when premium travel design is moving toward cleaner silhouettes and more seamless construction. In aluminum luggage, where the category’s visual identity has remained remarkably consistent, ZERO offers a different interpretation of strength. Traditional aluminum cases often make durability visible through repetition and exposed detail. ZERO expresses it through continuity, proportion, and restraint.

The ZERO Collection launches in three matte finishes: Silver, Gunmetal, and Black. Each finish was developed to give aluminum a more contemporary appearance while preserving the material’s natural character.

The shell is formed from a high-strength aluminum-magnesium alloy, with supplier-side Webster hardness readings around HW 15. The material was selected to balance rigidity, resilience, and practical travel durability.

The exterior finish is created through a glass-bead sandblasting process before anodizing. Sandblasting gives the aluminum a fine, even texture before the color is sealed in, creating a matte surface with depth and a more composed appearance under light. Anodizing supports surface durability and corrosion resistance while maintaining the character of the aluminum itself.

Inside, ZERO uses a wide telescoping handle system positioned toward the edges of the case. This layout helps keep the interior more even and continuous, creating a flatter packing space compared with traditional center-handle structures.

Movement is supported by MVST’s RIVA™ Tri-Bearing Wheels, designed for the surfaces travelers encounter most often: airport terminals, hotel floors, jet bridges, sidewalks, and the transitions between them. TSA-approved locks are set cleanly into the shell, continuing the suitcase’s reduced exterior language.

For MVST, ZERO is not simply a visual update. It represents a broader design direction within the brand’s aluminum luggage collection. Most aluminum suitcases share a familiar design vocabulary built around exposed rivets, grooves, and visible hardware. ZERO works with the same material, but gives it a quieter and more refined expression.

Reduction is not the absence of design. In many cases, deciding what to leave out is the design. ZERO reflects that belief, and MVST plans to continue building on this direction across future material and luggage development.

The ZERO Collection Aluminum Carry-On is available now in Silver, Gunmetal, and Black. It measures 22.8″ x 14.9″ x 8.8″, weighs 10.7 lbs, and offers a 33.5L capacity. The suitcase is priced at $475 and available through the ZERO Collection product page. As with any carry-on, travelers should confirm individual airline size requirements before flying.
