SAN FRANCISCO, CA: PhotoToolFinder, a directory built only for online photo editing tools, has launched at https://phototoolfinder.com. It features hundreds of photo-editing tools grouped into 37 categories that include background removers, photo enhancers, photo-to-cartoon converters, image compressors, reflection removers, collage makers, photo colorizers and more.
“My aim is to build a reliable, comprehensive database of photo editing tools on the Internet,” said Megh Chirravoori, founder of PhotoToolFinder. “If someone wants to colorize an old photo or change the background of a photo, they can quickly see what online tools are available, whether any of them offer a free tier and whether any special skill is required to use the tool.”
The home page offers a search box where one can search by use case (e.g. open closed eyes in a photo), category or tool name. Each category allows photo-editing tools to be filtered by price, ease of use and platform. The price filter separates free, freemium and paid tools. A tool that only shows a preview until you pay is listed as paid, for example. The ease of use filter sorts tools into beginner, intermediate and advanced. The platform filter shows which tools also run on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android. Every tool in the directory works in a browser.
Each tool in the directory has its own page, written after independent research rather than taken from vendor marketing. Each page covers the tool’s key features, its pros and cons and the questions people commonly ask about it. Each page also says who should skip the tool. A general image upscaler’s page, for example, advises against using it on anime or drawn art. It points to anime upscalers instead, because they keep line work cleaner.
“With the rise of AI, there are more photo tools than ever. I wanted to organize them and build an extensive directory of tools with features written objectively and after first-hand review,” Chirravoori added.
Developers and companies that make photo editing tools can suggest their products using the ‘suggest a tool’ option on the site. Tool submissions are free for a limited time. Every submission goes through a manual review and editing, so a submission doesn’t guarantee a listing.
