As Arizona’s premier autism academy continues to grow, more families are finding relief through an educational model that brings academics, therapy, and life skills together in one school day.
MESA, Ariz. — For many families raising an autistic child, the school day doesn’t end when the dismissal bell rings. Instead, it often begins a second shift of driving between speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral services, and other appointments… all while trying to create meaningful time together as a family.
Polaris Academy is changing that reality.
With the opening of its fifth campus at Usery Pass, Polaris Academy continues its expansion across the East Valley, providing more autistic students access to a learning environment intentionally designed around their needs. The new campus serves students in grades 7–12 and reflects the academy’s continued commitment to making specialized autism education more accessible to families throughout Arizona.
Today, Polaris Academy operates campuses at Superstition Springs, Dobson Ranch, Usery Pass, Starlight Academy, and Starlight Behavior Academy, creating a growing network of schools where academics, therapeutic supports, social development, and life skills are woven together throughout the school day rather than separated into multiple appointments.
“Our vision has always been bigger than opening another school,” said Nathan Palmer, CEO and Co-Founder of Polaris Academy. “We wanted to create an environment where autistic students receive the support they need without families spending every afternoon driving from one service to another. When parents tell us they finally have evenings together again, we know we’re making a difference.”
A major milestone in Polaris Academy’s growth has been its expanding partnership with Mesa Public Schools, which has allowed two specialized campuses to open within existing district facilities. Through this collaboration, the Dobson Ranch campus operates at Rhodes Junior High while the new Usery Pass campus is located at Smith Junior High, creating an innovative partnership that expands educational opportunities while making thoughtful use of existing community resources.
The collaboration demonstrates how public and private organizations can work together to better serve students with specialized needs. By transforming existing educational spaces into autism-focused learning environments, the partnership has allowed Polaris Academy to continue expanding while creating classrooms intentionally designed to support regulation, communication, independence, and academic success.
Unlike traditional educational settings that require students to leave campus for therapeutic services, Polaris Academy integrates educational and therapeutic supports throughout the school day. Students benefit from collaboration among educators, therapists, behavior specialists, and support staff, allowing learning and intervention to happen naturally within the classroom environment.
As awareness of specialized autism education continues to grow, so has demand for Polaris Academy’s model. Families from communities across the Valley are choosing campuses that reduce the burden of coordinating multiple services while providing students with an environment where they feel understood, supported, and empowered to succeed.
