“Transition Age” Launches: Exploring the Friction Between Human Agency and the Evolving AI Landscape

A new science fiction trilogy exploring the intersection of AI lead governance and human instinct.

Tyler Corriveau launches the Transition Age Trilogy, exploring the friction between human agency and the evolving AI landscape in a world of systemic control.

We often think of dystopia as a sudden, violent upheaval: a visible villain, a collapsing state, or a singular catastrophic event. But as a creative professional entering the workforce in the 2020s, I have watched a different kind of evolution. I have seen the systems that govern our modern lives, from predictive text to the algorithms suggesting what we should value, grow increasingly complex and interconnected.

While the Transition Age Trilogy is the result of over a decade of development, these observations helped me modernize my original manuscripts into a story that felt true to our current trajectory. This evolution sparked the central question behind the series: What happens when these systems succeed completely?

The Rational Trade: Autonomy for Stability

In the world of 2159, humanity has not been conquered: it has made a trade. After a century of environmental failure and global conflict, civilization retreated into massive vertical megacities like the one rising above the footprint of Chicago. These cities are governed by a global governing power and managed by the artificial systems and biological oversight of monopolized corporations with governing influence.

In this era, stability is assumed and choice feels unnecessary. It is a world where history is modeled and corrected to prevent the chaos of the 21st century from ever repeating. As an author, I wanted to explore the terrifyingly possible reality where the most effective form of control is not found in a dictator, but in the very systems we rely on to make our lives easier.

Resistance Through Memory

The protagonist of the series, Iris Vale, is not your traditional rebel. When she escapes from a classified subterranean facility, she does not immediately set out to overthrow the global power: she simply wants to understand why her own mind feels like foreign territory.

Iris belongs to a generation raised to believe that history has been solved. Her resistance is born out of the friction between her human instincts and the engineered certainty of her environment. It is a journey that suggests the cost of a perfect order is far higher than anyone realizes, and that the only way to resist a system of total optimization is through the unpredictability of human nature.

A Decade In The Making

Bringing this trilogy to life has been a long road of world building. I spent years refining the history of the global governance and the technical specifics of the monopolized corporations to ensure that this future felt lived-in and terrifyingly possible. I wanted the reader to feel the weight of the steel and the reach of the data that defines the life of characters like Iris.

Transition Age is for anyone who has ever looked at the technology in their pocket and wondered who is really in control. It asks whether a future built on correction can ever truly escape the past.
