Why American Pet Owners Are Moving Beyond Bluetooth Tracking

GEGO reports growing demand for real-time GPS pet tracking as connected pet technology reshapes the pet safety market

The pet technology market is evolving rapidly as pet owners increasingly seek more reliable ways to protect their dogs and cats. While Bluetooth-based trackers have become widely adopted in recent years, many consumers are now turning to GPS-powered alternatives that provide real-time location visibility regardless of distance.

This shift reflects a broader trend in connected pet technology, where owners are prioritizing continuous awareness, instant notifications, and greater peace of mind over proximity-based tracking solutions.

According to industry observations, one of the primary limitations of Bluetooth trackers is their dependence on nearby devices to relay location information. For pet owners, this can create uncertainty when a pet moves beyond the immediate area or leaves locations with high device density.

GEGO, a company known for developing GPS tracking solutions for travelers and asset protection, recently expanded into the pet technology market with the launch of GEGO PET.

The device combines GPS, GSM cellular connectivity, and Wi-Fi technology to provide real-time location tracking for dogs and cats through a dedicated mobile application. In addition to location awareness, the platform includes safe zone alerts, walk history, activity monitoring, sleep tracking, and a dedicated Lost Pet Mode designed to increase tracking frequency during emergencies.

“Pet owners today expect the same level of visibility they have for their vehicles, deliveries, and travel assets,” said Daniela Pomares, CEO of LugLoc. “The expectation has shifted from simply locating a pet nearby to knowing where they are in real time and receiving alerts before a situation becomes critical.”

The rise of connected pet devices reflects a larger consumer trend toward preventive safety technology. Rather than responding after a pet is lost, owners increasingly want tools that help reduce the likelihood of extended searches and provide actionable information immediately.

As GPS, cellular connectivity, and mobile applications become more accessible, industry experts expect real-time pet tracking to become a standard component of modern pet care, much like home security systems and connected health monitoring have become standard for households.

For companies operating in the pet technology sector, the challenge is no longer simply helping owners find lost pets. It is providing continuous visibility, proactive alerts, and reliable connectivity that support safer everyday experiences for both pets and their families.
