Tony Joe of RE/MAX Saber Properties: Building Community Through Real Estate in Victoria

Long before he became a recognized industry leader, Tony Joe found himself standing with a grieving family facing the sale of their parents’ estate. They weren’t ready. They weren’t sure. And they weren’t looking for a sales pitch—they needed someone who understood the emotional weight behind the decision. Tony didn’t rush the process. He listened, asked about their story, and helped them navigate both the legal and personal complexities ahead. That early moment, he says, became a defining lens for his work. Today, as team leader at RE/MAX Saber Properties in Victoria, British Columbia, Tony has spent 34 years guiding clients through some of life’s biggest transitions—specializing in estates, wills and trusts, government relocations, seniors, first-time buyers, and investors across the Capital Regional District.

Born and raised in Victoria, Tony’s connection to the region isn’t professional—it’s personal. Entering real estate in 1991 felt like a natural step from his early sales background, but what held him in the field was the realization that a home isn’t simply an asset. It’s a symbol of identity, family, and change. Over time, he became the person families turned to during pivotal life moments: when aging parents needed support downsizing, when a government posting uprooted a household, or when young buyers took their first uncertain step into the market. Real estate, for Tony, was never about volume—it was about responsibility.

That sense of responsibility ultimately led him into leadership roles shaping the industry itself. Tony served three elected terms as Director of the Victoria Real Estate Board before becoming President in 2008, an experience that deepened his belief in education and professional standards. His work then expanded nationally, where he became an instructor and subject matter expert for the BC Real Estate Association (BCREA) and teacher for BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA)—helping regulate, teach, and mentor professionals across the Province and also across Canada. Training others keeps him sharp, informed, and ahead of legislation and market shifts. His long-standing role within the RE/MAX Western Canada network—where his team has consistently ranked in the Top 100—reinforces his reputation for expertise and trustworthiness within the industry.

But Tony’s impact is best measured in stories, not statistics. One senior couple, overwhelmed by the thought of leaving their longtime home, found reassurance through his calm, patient approach—transforming what felt like loss into an empowering new chapter. A government employee relocating alone leaned on Tony not just for housing guidance, but for introductions to local activities, businesses, and community groups. In moments like these, Tony wasn’t just a realtor; he was a bridge into belonging. His community-driven mindset earned him honors including the 2009 Community Service Award for RE/MAX Western Canada and the 2013 CFAX Community Leader of the Year—but he rarely speaks about awards. He talks about people.

Today, Tony’s work reaches beyond real estate transactions. He has helped build local business groups designed to strengthen Victoria’s economic and social fabric, fostering connections that support both long-time residents and newcomers. With so many individuals relocating to Victoria each year, Tony believes real estate professionals have a larger role: not just to help people move, but to help them integrate, participate, and feel at home in their new community.

For those navigating major life transitions, Tony offers something rare—deep expertise anchored by empathy, and professionalism rooted in place. His story reminds us that in Victoria, real estate isn’t just about property lines; it’s about human lives.
