In modern fashion and streetwear, consumers frequently encounter commercial labels that lack authentic storytelling and genuine social responsibility. At the same time, finding meaningful ways to channel profound personal loss into lasting community impact remains one of life’s hardest journeys. Transforming grief into a vehicle for positive change demands steady dedication, focused execution, and an unwavering commitment to honoring a loved one's values.

MeltedSkin Streetwear originated from the creative vision of 16-year-old Tony Anderson, who set out to build a distinctive streetwear brand that dedicated 50% of its profits to cat rescues and animal shelters. Following Tony's unexpected passing, his father, music industry veteran DJ CEO, stepped forward to fulfill a personal promise: bringing his son's entrepreneurial designs and charitable mission to life. In this executive Q&A, DJ CEO discusses the creative origins of MeltedSkin, the operational steps behind launching an independent apparel line, and how honoring Tony’s plans creates an enduring legacy for animals in need.

Q: Tony was only 16, yet he had already developed a sharp eye for modern fashion and studied creative figures like Kim Kruger. How did his personal aesthetic and deep interest in streetwear shape the foundational identity of MeltedSkin?

DJ CEO: He loved a lot of the Alt Streetwear style clothes. Kim Kruger was his favorite brand/designer but he also loved Affliction and some of the vintage brands as well as he was a huge fan of a lot of the Balenciaga collections, every outfit he wore always had at least one Balenciaga piece in it.

Q: A central pillar of MeltedSkin is donating 50% of all profits to cat rescues. How did Tony’s real-world rescue of his kitten, Mustard, turn his love for animals into the brand's core mission?

DJ CEO: He’s always been an animal lover since he was young. Always loved going to petting zoos and conservations and learning about the animals and learning about the rescue side. He had been wanting an orange kitten for a while but at the time I was traveling a lot for DJ gigs so we were planning to wait and get one later but when he found mustard we couldn’t just leave her out there. There were a lot of storms in our area at the time and she was sick and had been abandoned by her mother too young so she wouldn’t have survived outside on her own. She had about a 50/50 chance of making it even when we rescued her but he nursed her back to health in his room, getting up with her at night to feed her and taking care of her and giving her lots of love and she flourished. She’s still a happy member of the family to this day. He also always had a knack for helping others in general. He used to help me with the charity events I did for the holidays in my hometown and he really enjoyed it, then when we would be on trips if he saw a homeless person at the stop light he was always quick to roll down his window and give them some money. He had a big heart and wanted to make a big difference in the world in whatever ways he could so when he started coming up with the line he realized he could use this not only to reach his personal goals with the fashion world but also combine it with his passion for animals and helping others all at once.

Q: Taking an independent apparel line from early concepts to finished production involves complex logistics, sampling, and manufacturing costs. How are you approaching these startup challenges while ensuring every garment reflects Tony’s original vision?

DJ CEO: Right now our family has been very blessed to have people coming together and donating for the initial start up budget. I started a gofundme for his brand after he passed away so that I could keep my promise to him that I made that I’d do whatever I could to help him make his dreams a reality. The gofundme has gotten really close to the goal so I’m just continuing to push and between the donations and my connections and resources I’ve acquired over my years in the entertainment industry I’m going to get it launched right after the new year starting with just a few core products to the line then continuing on with his plans with many 1 of 1 exclusive products and big brand collaborations as well.

Q: You have spent decades building a career in the music and entertainment industry with Black Market Records. How does your entrepreneurial experience in music production guide how you run MeltedSkin?

DJ CEO: The fashion world is still somewhat new to me on that aspect. I’ve worked in it somewhat before with different sponsors and brand endorsement deals I’ve done in the past but starting a line is a whole new animal. Thankfully Tony always was eager to let me in on his goals and plans for the line, that was the topic of many of our long father son talks so I’m going mainly off that but also with my career in the music industry I’ve gained many connections to PR and advertising resources, celebrities I can have help endorse the brand, and even have connections to a couple fashion week style events in Los Angeles and Miami that I plan to use for this.

Q: Partnering with the right animal welfare groups is essential for transparent impact. What criteria are you focusing on as you select the cat rescues and shelters that will receive funding from MeltedSkin sales?

DJ CEO: Main thing is just making sure that they actually use the funds for the right things, Tony’s plan was to have it be to where when someone purchased one of his products they knew their purchase was directly helping a cat in need so I’m going to be researching how the funding and donations they get are used, how the animals they have are cared for, and mainly just making sure everyone is honest and the cats really are getting the help they need.

Q: Looking forward, what are your primary launch milestones for the debut collection, and how can the broader community help ensure Tony’s dream continues to thrive?

DJ CEO: A couple of the first core products in mind for the initial launch are going to be t shirts and hoodies with the MeltedSkin logo and the distressed design look, also some socks with exotic leopard print and the logo, and then in the future there’s plans for MeltedSkin x Balenciaga 1 of 1 exclusive products. Those 1 of 1 products were what he was most excited for because he was going to really let his creativity shine with those and improve designs he loved already. The best way everyone can help is by donating and/or sharing the gofundme.

The dialogue with DJ CEO demonstrates how purpose and perseverance can transform profound loss into positive action. By anchoring the brand in Tony Anderson’s original designs, creative influences, and passion for animal welfare, MeltedSkin Streetwear stands apart from typical commercial clothing lines. It pairs youth culture and distinct fashion design with an uncompromising commitment to rescuing vulnerable animals.

As the streetwear community continues to seek out brands with genuine substance, initiatives driven by real conviction will leave the deepest mark. Combining artistic expression with substantial charitable support creates an enduring connection between creators and their communities. Through focused development and dedicated advocacy, DJ CEO ensures that Tony's creative voice, compassion, and dream of helping animals will continue to inspire others for years to come.
