After 15 Years Bootstrapped, Parksy Founder Says the iPhone Launch Isn’t the News. The Missing Fee Line Is.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — Parksy (parksy.com), the parking marketplace that has never charged a driver or a space owner a fee to use it, launched on the Apple App Store this week. The iOS app is available at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/parksy-parking-made-easy/id6764472718, joining the existing Android release at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.parksy.app.

Most parking apps make their money the same way: a booking fee tacked onto the driver’s total, a cut taken from whatever the space owner charges, or both. Parksy has built its business without either, since founding the company in 2011. The iOS release doesn’t change that. It’s the same free listings, the same free booking, and the same zero percent commission that have defined the platform on web and Android.

“People assume there’s a fee somewhere they haven’t found yet,” said founder Daniel Battaglia. “There isn’t. Fifteen years of not charging drivers a fee to find parking is a stranger business decision than launching on iPhone. The app was the easy part.”

The iOS app brings Parksy’s full set of free driver tools to iPhone for the first time: an AI-powered fine appeal calculator, a parking sign scanner, a find-my-parked-car tool, and a roadside accident report designed to work without signal. None require an account to use.

For space owners, the app opens the same no-fee listing path that has run on the platform since 2011: driveways, garages and unused spots, no lease paperwork, no commission taken on bookings.

Battaglia, previously of Lehman Brothers, RBC Capital Markets and Macquarie Bank, has run Parksy as a bootstrapped operation across 57 countries. “Being commission-free is a lot easier to say than to sustain for fifteen years,” he said. “Getting onto the App Store is a checkbox. Staying free this long is the actual work.”
