AI Is Coming for the Editing Room. A New York Conference Is Teaching Media Pros How to Keep Up.

The people who edit the shows, films and videos audiences watch every day are facing an unusual problem. It is not a shortage of technology. It is an oversupply of it. New AI-assisted tools arrive constantly, established software changes with every release, and deadlines keep getting shorter while the list of skills these professionals are expected to master keeps growing.

“The problem in post-production today isn’t a lack of tools. It’s too many tools, changing too quickly, with very little time to figure out which ones actually make you better at your job.”  – Eran Stern, creative technologist, motion designer and Post|Production World instructor

The stakes are significant for the media workforce. A CVL Economics study commissioned by the Animation Guild, the Concept Art Association and other industry groups estimated that 21.4% of film, television and animation jobs, roughly 118,500 positions, could be consolidated, replaced or eliminated by generative AI by 2026, including about 15,100 jobs in New York. Only 26% of entertainment executives surveyed said their workforce was prepared to integrate the technology.

Demand for practical answers is already visible. At PPW Las Vegas 2026, 33 different AI-focused sessions drew attendee feedback, covering editing, audio post, VFX, ethics and the legal questions that come with new tools, and AI sessions accounted for roughly one in five of all session feedback responses in FMC’s post-show survey.

A Conference Built Around the Problem

Post|Production World New York, the hands-on training conference produced by Future Media Concepts (FMC), returns to NAB Show New York October 20-21, 2026, with a program aimed squarely at that gap.

“Post-production professionals are being asked to move faster at exactly the moment their toolset is becoming more complicated. AI is only adding to that pressure. The real challenge isn’t learning every new feature, it’s knowing which tools are actually useful, where they fit into your workflow, and when the traditional approach is still better. That’s what we designed PPW New York to address: practical, real-world training that helps creatives make better decisions, not just collect more techniques.”  – Eran Stern

Sessions are organized around the work media professionals do every day: editing, color, motion graphics, sound and post-production workflows in industry-standard tools such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and Cinema 4D. The program also covers responsible uses of AI across editing, visual effects, production planning and content workflows.

Sessions include “60 Premiere Tips in 60 Minutes: What YouTube Can’t Teach You,” “Cinema 4D to After Effects: Faster 3D Motion Graphics Workflows” and “How to Build AI Tools Ethically & Efficiently.” Instructors include Eran Stern, Richard Harrington, Luisa Winters, Jeff Greenberg, Gary Adcock and Rachel Longman.

Why It Happens in New York

“Las Vegas gives you scale. New York gives you proximity. One of the biggest problems with learning today is that we’re surrounded by tutorials and presentations, but there’s often no opportunity to ask, ‘Yes, but how does this work in my situation?’ The smaller rooms at PPW New York make the experience much more personal. You can ask questions, challenge the instructor, continue the conversation afterwards and turn a session into something you can actually use when you’re back at work.”  – Eran Stern

For a workforce navigating AI disruption and constant software change, that direct access to instructors is the draw: the difference between watching another tutorial and changing how you actually work.
