First edition of OneCan, the International Metal Packaging Congress, will take place in April 2027 in São Paulo, bringing together the entire industry value chain
São Paulo – Brazil will host, for the first time in Latin America, a congress dedicated exclusively to the metal packaging industry. The OneCan – International Metal Packaging Congress will be held from April 6 to 8, 2027, at Distrito Anhembi, in São Paulo (SP), with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and business generation.
Conceived by the sector’s leading representative entities — the Brazilian Aerosol Association (ABAS), the Brazilian Steel Packaging Association (ABEAÇO), and the Brazilian Aluminum Can Association (Abralatas) — and organized by Koelnmesse Brazil, OneCan was created with the purpose of bringing together, in a single environment, the entire metal packaging value chain, from raw materials and components to design solutions, logistics, recycling, and circular economy.
As the first event of its kind with this scope in the region, the congress reinforces Brazil’s role as a strategic hub for the metal packaging industry in Latin America, connecting industry, technological innovation, and global sustainability agendas.
A strategic market for the Brazilian economy
The metal packaging sector plays a significant role in the national economy. The three associations behind OneCan represent dozens of companies that together generate more than BRL 55 billion in annual revenue and account for approximately 52,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Brazil also holds a prominent position internationally: it is the world’s fourth-largest aerosol producer, the third-largest global market for aluminum beverage cans, and one of the largest markets for steel packaging.
According to the entities behind the congress, the launch of OneCan comes at a strategic moment for the sector. “With rising consumption and a supply chain increasingly driven by efficiency, innovation, and environmental responsibility, Brazil combines scale, industrial maturity, and leadership in the circular economy to consolidate itself as a reference platform in Latin America. By bringing together the entire metal packaging value chain, the congress creates a strategic environment to attract investments, accelerate partnerships, and strengthen the competitiveness of the national market on the global stage,” state the presidents Alyne Freitas (ABAS), Thais Fagury (ABEAÇO), and Cátilo Cândido (Abralatas).
Sustainability at the core of the metal packaging industry
Sustainability is one of the structural pillars of the metal packaging industry in Brazil. In the aluminum segment, the country stands out globally: according to Abralatas, more than 97% of beverage cans consumed in Brazil are recycled, an index that places the country among the world leaders in circular economy.
“Sustainability is a structural differentiator of metal packaging in Brazil. In the case of aluminum beverage cans, the country has built a highly efficient chain based on high circularity, combining socio-environmental gains with industrial competitiveness. OneCan expands this debate by connecting innovation, technology, and sustainable practices on an international scale,” says Cátilo Cândido.
In the aerosol segment, Brazil also shows strong dynamism, with the adoption of advanced technologies adapted to local demands, especially in high-consumption categories such as insecticides and deodorants. With an average annual growth of 5%, the country is expected to reach third place globally by 2029, according to ABAS.
“We will use OneCan to show the world the strength of the Brazilian aerosol sector, marked by technological innovation and economic relevance in strategic retail categories. The event also reinforces our commitment to sustainability by encouraging investments in recycling, education, and process improvements aimed at reducing carbon emissions,” says Alyne Freitas.
In the steel segment, sustainable progress involves strengthening the value chain and improving efficiency in post-consumer material recovery.
“Our Annual Custody Center Report showed that more than 706,000 tons of post-consumer packaging were recovered in Brazil, with 15.89% corresponding to metal packaging. To move forward, it is essential to strengthen traceability systems, prevent fraud, and ensure that these materials are effectively recycled. OneCan will be a strategic space for this discussion, bringing together logistics, recycling, and circular economy companies,” says Thais Fagury.
An unprecedented platform for business, content, and innovation
In addition to technical and strategic content, OneCan was designed as a business platform, bringing together exhibitors from across the entire value chain and offering qualified content to more than 3,000 visitors from Brazil and abroad.
“OneCan was created to respond to real market demands and to fill an important gap in the industry: the absence of an event dedicated exclusively to metal packaging. In a single environment, we will bring together exhibitors from the entire value chain, creating a strategic platform for business generation and qualified content for more than 3,000 visitors from Brazil and abroad,” says Beni Piatetzky, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Brazil.
The simultaneous realization of the congress with Anuga Select Brazil 2027 further expands the event’s reach, bringing together food and beverage manufacturers, brand owners, and decision-makers from sectors such as cosmetics, cleaning products, paints, and the chemical industry.
Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, also highlights the strategic role of OneCan within the organizer’s global portfolio. “With OneCan, we expand Koelnmesse’s presence in Brazil and open a new growth segment. By leveraging our global leadership in Food & FoodTec through events such as Anuga and Anuga FoodTec, we connect packaging innovation with the demands of global food production and adjacent sectors such as cosmetics, cleaning products, paints, and chemicals,” says Böse.
About ABAS – The driving force behind the aerosol sector in Brazil
For more than 60 years, the Brazilian Aerosol and Household Sanitizing Products Association (ABAS) has led the development of the aerosol market in the country, representing companies, promoting innovation, and connecting Brazil to global best practices.
Our work is focused on four pillars:
- Defend and develop the aerosol market;
- Strengthen the competitiveness of members;
- Represent the sector before public authorities and society;
- Drive innovation, safety, and sustainability.
Recycling is an absolute priority. ABAS invests in technical studies and international partnerships, using models such as France — where 85% of aerosols are recycled — as a reference. The goal is to accelerate the circular economy in Brazil and position the country among the global leaders in environmental responsibility.
Through annual research, market indicators, and high-impact initiatives, ABAS turns knowledge into action and opportunities into results.
