Millions of men worldwide suffer silently from chronic prostatitis. This debilitating condition causes long-lasting inflammation of the prostate gland, resulting in persistent pain, severe discomfort, and urinary problems. Despite its severe impact on daily life, the medical community frequently misunderstands and misdiagnoses the illness. Patients often endure months or even years of agony, trying ineffective treatments while their physical and mental health deteriorates. Men need a reliable path to diagnosis and permanent relief.
Enter Mark Swain, a finance professional turned author and health advocate. After enduring years of extreme pain from this "silent assassin," Mark discovered a revolutionary treatment that cured his condition. Driven to spare others from similar suffering, he wrote a new book, founded an advocacy platform, and helped develop new technology for prostate health. Today, we sit down with Mark to discuss his harrowing personal journey, the hidden realities of chronic prostatitis, and his mission to help men get their lives back.
Q: Your new book details your four-year battle with chronic prostatitis. What was the turning point that finally led you to a correct diagnosis and an effective treatment?
Mark Swain: I spent eighteen months in my home country, Australia visiting various specialists including a urologist, ear nose and throat specialists and multiple General Doctors. I even went to Royal North Shore Hospital, Infectious Diseases area as one of my symptoms was chronic fatigue.
Amazingly I found the specialist urologist Doctor that eventually treated me after typing my symptoms into Google.
Q: The medical community frequently misdiagnoses this condition. Why do you think so many doctors struggle to identify and treat chronic prostatitis effectively?
Mark Swain: After meeting numerous patients suffering from the condition chronic prostatitis, the standard doctor's response appears to be prescribing oral antibiotics. The problem with this, is the antibiotics do not enter the prostate in enough strength to kill the bacteria causing chronic prostatitis.
Q: You traveled to Greece to undergo a rigorous, 10-month treatment protocol. How did this specific approach differ from the standard remedies you tried previously?
Mark Swain: No one in Australia even diagnosed me with chronic prostatitis. One doctor even said “it is probably just some covid related stress”. The treatment I undertook was different right from the high resolution colour transrectal ultrasound I had done from the outset, which clearly showed an inflamed and enlarged prostate. It was also different in the fact I had my sperm analysed for any bacteria present in addition to my urine.
Q: You call chronic prostatitis a "silent epidemic." Beyond the physical pain, what hidden psychological and emotional tolls does this illness take on men?
Mark Swain: Where do I start? Since launching my website and book I have had guys reach out to me who are near suicidal with the extreme symptoms they are encountering. The worst part is not knowing. You know your body does not feel right and you feel sick, I started to think maybe I had cancer or something more sinister.
Q: Your advocacy extends beyond the book, including your investment in the Medoron Orion Probe. How will this new technology make effective treatment more accessible to men worldwide?
Mark Swain: Medoron’s aim is to make effective prostate care more accessible to men wherever they live. Its first product, Atlas, is launching in 2026 and is designed to allow men to take a more active role in their prostate wellbeing from home.
Orion is the more ambitious medical-device programme I have invested in. It is being developed as a compact, self-use ultrasound probe intended to add greater objectivity and reproducibility to the assessment, monitoring and eventual treatment of prostatitis. By creating comparable snapshots of the prostate over time, and combining these with AI-assisted analysis, the aim is to help patients and clinicians identify abnormalities more accurately, follow a patient’s response to treatment and reduce the risk of chronic prostatitis being overlooked or misdiagnosed.
The struggle with chronic prostatitis is a grueling reality for countless men, but it no longer has to be a life sentence. As our conversation reveals, finding a cure requires looking beyond conventional, often ineffective, medical advice. Mark's journey highlights the critical need for accurate diagnosis, targeted non-surgical treatments, and greater awareness. His relentless pursuit of a solution provides a clear roadmap for men navigating this elusive condition.
Looking ahead, the conversation around men's pelvic health must become more open and proactive. As new diagnostic tools and self-care technologies emerge, patients will gain greater control over their treatment outcomes. Advocates like Mark Swain are leading this charge, proving that with the right resources and determination, men can triumph over this invisible enemy and reclaim their vitality.
