A Series of Unfortunate Events star Malina Weissman faces The Incredible Hulk icon Lou Ferrigno as a cannibal pig farmer in the backwoods horror thriller

BUENOS ARES / SÃO PAULO / MEXICO CITY — Malina Weissman, known to millions of viewers worldwide as Violet Baudelaire in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, enters a very different kind of nightmare opposite television legend Lou Ferrigno in THE HERMIT, arriving across Latin America beginning August 29, 2026.

Weissman stars as Lisa, a teenager whose trip into the countryside becomes a terrifying fight for survival when she encounters a reclusive pig farmer known as The Hermit, played by Ferrigno.

Best known around the world as television’s original Incredible Hulk, Ferrigno abandons the superhero persona audiences have known for decades to deliver one of the most unexpected transformations of his career — a hulking, near-silent cannibal farmer whose homemade jerky conceals a horrifying secret.

At the center of the nightmare is Weissman’s Lisa.

Audiences who grew up watching Weissman as the resourceful and fiercely intelligent Violet Baudelaire will see the actress venture into considerably darker territory in THE HERMIT. As Lisa, she must rely on her instincts and determination as an adventure turns into an increasingly desperate struggle to escape the isolated farm — and the man hunting her.

The film brings together two generations of internationally recognized television stars. Ferrigno’s portrayal of the Hulk made him a pop-culture icon around the world, while Weissman reached a new generation of global viewers through Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Their unlikely pairing gives THE HERMIT its distinctive edge: the former Hulk transformed into the monster, and one of Netflix’s best-known young heroines forced to confront him.

Blending backwoods horror, dark humor and old-school practical horror, THE HERMIT builds its mythology around an isolated farm, a local legend and a homemade delicacy with an unthinkable secret.

The film follows Lisa and her companions after their journey takes an unexpected turn and leaves them stranded in unfamiliar territory. What initially appears to be an encounter with an eccentric local farmer soon reveals something far more sinister.

The Hermit has been living beyond the reach of the outside world, tending his farm and perfecting a gruesome specialty. As the visitors discover what is really happening on the property, escape becomes their only objective.

Ferrigno brings his legendary physical presence to the role while deliberately stripping away the heroic qualities audiences have associated with him for decades. The result is a character built around menace, isolation and raw physicality rather than dialogue.

For Weissman, Lisa represents a transition from the elaborate gothic world that made her internationally recognizable to a visceral contemporary horror story in which survival takes center stage.

Following its release to audiences in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, THE HERMIT now heads to Latin America, introducing the film to horror audiences across the region beginning August 29.

The Latin American release will be presented in English with Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. TVOD Streaming Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google You-Tube and regional local channels in all Latin American countries.
