Dona Branch, Caregiver and Inventor, saw this struggle firsthand and decided to create a solution. Through her company, Innovative Senior Living Products, Inc., she developed the ShowerAngel, an innovative bath and shower chair designed to offer unprecedented convenience and safety. We spoke with Dona to learn more about the inspiration behind this product, its unique features, and the impact she hopes it will have on users.
Q: You’ve mentioned that your background as a caregiver deeply influenced your work. What specific challenges did you observe that led you to invent the ShowerAngel?
Dona Branch: My inspiration behind inventing ShowerAngel was Ron K., a client with Parkinson Disease. I observed Ron attempting to shower, assisted by his personal caregiver. The water stream was too far away, therefore he was cold & shivering, supplies were not in reach, Ron’s chair was not made well (flimsy) creating a safety hazard and instability.
I went home feeling depleted and asked God during my prayers that evening to help me create a product that would solve this very common, but complicated problem.

Resulting in a broken hip or worse. My own grandfather, John passed away after a fall in a rehabilitation center in St. Pete Florida, after a fall in the shower from an unstable shower chair in 2000.
ShowerAngel is a caregivers dream at home or in a facility! It will lower insurance premiums, retain care staff and not make showering day for the responsible person a nightmare.

Q: The product is designed to fit seamlessly in most showers and bathtubs while supporting up to 450 lbs. How did you balance the need for a heavy-duty weight capacity with making the chair lightweight and portable?
Dona Branch: ShowerAngel was developed over 8 tedious years and we have hired 5 engineers to bring this stable, safe and lightweight design together! Unfortunately there are no requirements for testing a shower or bath chair prior to entering the market, but we went above and beyond to make sure we have the most safe, sustainable and beneficial showering and bathing solution that will be available!
Q: You’ve incorporated eco-friendly ABS-PC plastic and antimicrobial elements into the design. Why was it important to include these specific materials in a product meant for daily personal care?
Dona Branch: We wanted a material that would deflect germs and bacteria. In addition, to a light weight and strong plastic compensation to allow maximum weight capacity and comfort! We thought of everything possible.
Our mission is to encourage travel and quality of life! You can only do that through a personal feeling of refreshment and self love!

Q: The ShowerAngel includes a universal shower wand cuff that accommodates most handheld wands. How does this customization feature improve the overall bathing experience for the user?
Dona Branch: The shower cuff holds the shower wand close to the individual's body, therefore keeping the body warm and offering maximum spa-like comfort!
Q: Beyond the physical benefits, you emphasize the importance of nourishing the "Body, Mind, and Spirit." How do you hope the ShowerAngel will impact the mental and emotional well-being of those who use it?
Dona Branch: I’m crying….over 20 years I have witnessed people struggling to shower or bathe Independently, safely and successfully. Especially with mental challenges such as Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, ALS, MS, Amputations and any Surgery, even the young after a car accident, etc.
To Shower or Bathe is our greatest human need, beside love and touch! Everyone needs to feel like they have a purpose and that starts with a fresh and clean mind, body and spirit connection. I want people to feel God's love as this is his design, not mine. I am only the messenger!
