Professionals across industries often hit a wall in their careers, feeling stuck despite their hard work. Many seek advice, only to find an endless supply of vague motivational platitudes that fail to produce real results. This lack of actionable strategy leaves driven individuals spinning their wheels, unable to break through plateaus and achieve their true potential. High performers need more than a pep talk; they require structured accountability and a concrete plan to get out of their own way.
Corey Dissin, the "no-BS business bodyguard," cuts through the noise with his Knockout Life and High-Performance Coaching. Building on his decades of experience in business, branding, and media production, the author of GOING THE DISS-TANCE has expanded his services to help professionals across all sectors tackle burnout and build resilience. In this interview, we discuss the realities of entrepreneurial struggle, the importance of mental toughness, and how his customized "fight plans" prepare clients to win.
Q: You often refer to yourself as the "no-BS business bodyguard." What specific frustrations with traditional coaching methods led you to adopt this straightforward approach?
Corey Dissin: Take a look at me and you’ll see I don’t fit the mold. I’m not your typical stuffed-shirt academic that’s going to recite what I read in a book or absorbed in a lecture. I LIVED what I teach. I’m LIVING PROOF that what I teach works because I talk the talk AND walk the walk. Although I have achieved a certain level of success, I am a huge proponent of “If I can do it, you can do it.”
When you couple that attitude with my allergy to complacency and wasted talent, you get a powerful but pragmatic approach to push beyond your limits and win in your life and career.
Q: Your book, GOING THE DISS-TANCE, serves as both a memoir and a battle plan. How do you translate the lessons from the book into the daily accountability you provide for your clients?
Corey Dissin: The book is evidence. It’s proof that what I did and what I do works. Through my story and the people that influenced and instructed me, the purpose was to demonstrate (in very simple language) how if I can do it, YOU can do it.
Q: Many entrepreneurs struggle with what you call the "sad-sack, woe-is-me" mindset. How do your customized fight plans help clients shift away from excuse-making and toward taking action?
Corey Dissin: The biggest thing is I lead by example. I don’t demand anything from anyone that I don’t demand from myself. You have to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. When you consistently demonstrate that you adhere to a certain structure, it makes it much easier for clients to emulate that. Because I am very transparent and I go out of my way to share my own journey on social media, my clients get a front row seat to things like my fitness routine and my content posting frequency. They witness how I make no excuses. They see how I am consistent. They see how I am all-in.
Q: You recently expanded your coaching beyond the voiceover industry to include professionals in finance, HR, and other sectors. What universal challenges do you see high performers facing regardless of their specific field?
Corey Dissin: Being stuck in overwhelm, self-doubt, or procrastination is not exclusive to the voiceover industry. Many entrepreneurs who aim to be high performers are spending too much time focusing on the result instead of the route. Achieving entrepreneurial goals is like climbing Mount Everest. Instead of looking at the summit and obsessing about how far away or how steep of a climb it is, I say focus on your feet. Take one step at a time. Embrace learning how to do small things, ridiculously well, consistently. When you do that, you create a pattern of accomplishment and momentum you can build on.
Q: Beyond mindset coaching, your firm offers practical support like virtual administrative assistants and web design. Why is it important to combine mental toughness with these tangible business tools?
Corey Dissin: It was a natural fit to attach a sister company of designers and virtual assistants to my coaching program. Some folks want to invest to learn how to do things themselves. Others would rather throw money at a service to do things for them. Some opt for both. It makes me more of a one-stop shop.
Q: Now that you are expanding your reach to a broader audience of business professionals, what are your next steps for growing your high-performance coaching programs?
Corey Dissin: I’ve been fortunate to have had a successful career that has spanned over 3 decades. I’ll always do something to help people in some capacity, and I’m constantly in search of the next great clients, but my aspirations of scale and manifest destiny are in the rear-view mirror. It’s a blessing that I’ve reached a level where I get to schedule my work around my life and not the other way around. My “next” is nothing fancy. Keep super-serving a select group of accounts so I can keep the rent paid, the fridge full, and gas in the car. That way I can spend as much quality time as possible with my wife, my kids, and hopefully soon, their kids.
This conversation underscores the necessity of clear, unvarnished guidance for professionals trying to advance their careers. Dissin demonstrates that achieving lasting success requires strict accountability and a willingness to confront personal roadblocks head-on. By combining high-performance mindset coaching with practical business services, he provides a comprehensive system for individuals ready to stop making excuses and start taking action.
Navigating the complexities of modern business demands a resilient, fight-ready approach. As professionals continue to seek out strategies that actually work, coaches who offer structural support and radical honesty will provide the most value. Corey Dissin's expanding platform ensures that driven individuals have the corner man they need to go the distance.
