For the second year, multiple scholarships will be awarded to aspiring filmmakers to enrol in VFS’s globally recognized School of Film & Television programs.
Announcement Highlights:
- The MovieMaker Scholarship returns for 2026, supporting aspiring creatives pursuing careers across the entertainment industry.
- Up to $295,000 CAD in partial scholarships will be awarded.
- Scholarships are available for VFS’s Film Production, Acting for Film & Television, Writing for Film, Television & Games, Sound Design for Visual Media, and Makeup Design for Film & Television programs.
- Applications open August 18, 2026.
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Vancouver Film School (VFS) and MovieMaker Magazine are once again joining forces to support aspiring filmmakers and entertainment professionals through the return of the MovieMaker Scholarship.
Following the success of the partnership’s first year, the MovieMaker Scholarship returns with substantial tuition funding available to talented creatives from around the world who want to receive hands-on training at VFS’s Production Centre in Vancouver, Canada.
Recognized as a Leading Film School in North America by MovieMaker and Variety, and a Leading Film School Worldwide by The Hollywood Reporter, VFS’s School of Film & Television offers five specialized programs spanning film production, acting, writing, sound design, and production makeup.
Students train using professional production pipelines and industry-standard facilities – including a 64,000 cubic ft. motion capture volume (Beyond Capture Studios), seven fully-independent shooting studios, and a 280-degree green screen studio – while collaborating across multiple VFS programs and learning from experienced faculty and industry mentors working across film, television, and games.
The following will be awarded:
- One $20,000 scholarship
- Five $15,000 scholarships
- Ten $10,000 scholarships
- Multiple additional partial scholarships from a funding pool of up to $100,000
Winners can apply the scholarship toward any of VFS’s one-year School of Film & Television programs:
- Film Production
- Acting for Film & Television
- Writing for Film, Television & Games
- Sound Design for Visual Media
- Makeup Design for Film & Television
Applications open on August 18, 2026, close on October 1, 2026, and recipients will be announced on October 21, 2026.

As the global entertainment industry continues to evolve, opportunities are expanding across film, television, streaming, and emerging forms of media. VFS graduates have recently contributed to projects including The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Michael, Backrooms, Project Hail Mary, Beef, Off Campus, and KPop Demon Hunters, with alumni working at leading studios and entertainment companies including Hulu, Apple, Amblin, A24, and 20th Century Fox.
