From the Author : I am Christa Jan Ryan, a memoir author, television host, and longtime creative professional whose work explores resilience, recovery, and the realities that often exist beneath outward success. Born in Kingston, New York, I was the youngest of six children, raised in a family shaped by both hardship and responsibility, including my triplet sisters who were born with cerebral palsy.

For more than forty-five years, I have worked as a landscape designer throughout the Hamptons and Southern Vermont, serving high-profile clients and designing for the rich and famous. Those decades offered a rare perspective into the contrast between privilege and pain, beauty and brokenness, a tension that later became central to my writing.

My bestselling memoir, Silent Screams from the Hamptons, held the #1 position on Amazon for six consecutive weeks in 2009. The book is an unflinching account of trauma, addiction, survival, and healing, written with emotional honesty, sharp insight, and unexpected humor. It was later adapted into a stage production, Good God! Why?, which toured New England for three years prior to the pandemic. Right now I’m working with a Film Producer to move it into a Film Adaptation.

My 35 years in the Hamptons looked look flawless. Ocean light. Perfect lawns. Glass raised in celebration. A life that appears untouched by hardship. But perfection is often a surface.

Silent Screams from the Hamptons is not a story about glamour. It is the story beneath it.

This memoir begins long before the Hamptons. It begins in childhood, in a home shaped by addiction, fear, and the kind of silence that teaches you to endure instead of speak. When you grow up in instability, you learn to read moods before you read books. You learn how to survive before you learn how to live.

That kind of childhood does not disappear when you become an adult.

It follows you.

For decades, I worked as a landscape designer for high-profile clients in the Hamptons. I built beauty for others while quietly carrying wounds that had never been named. From the outside, my life looked successful. Inside, I was still navigating trauma, addiction, and the long shadow of generational pain.

This book is the place where that silence ends.

It is an honest account of growing up in dysfunction, confronting addiction, questioning faith, and facing the difficult truth that success does not heal what was broken in childhood. It is also a story of recovery. Not a dramatic overnight transformation, but the slow and humbling process of breaking cycles and choosing truth over appearance.

Readers often tell me they see themselves in these pages. Not because our lives look identical, but because silence is universal. So many of us carry parts of our story quietly, believing we are alone in them.

You are not alone.

Silent Screams from the Hamptons held the #1 position on Amazon because it speaks to something real. It does not offer perfection. It offers honesty.

If you have ever looked like you had it all together while privately falling apart, this story was written for you

Her new memoir is The Compliant Cowgirl. It’s a book about the perils and devastation of Codependency and where it can take you! She would have followed him anywhere…
even if it meant losing herself along the way.

In the restless haze of the 1970s, a young woman escapes the weight of a fractured past, chasing love, freedom, and the promise of a new beginning. When Lance Laurel III enters her life, charismatic, magnetic, impossible to resist, she doesn’t just fall for him… she surrenders completely.

From the farmlands of Long Island to the wild, untamed beauty of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, she trades everything familiar for a dream that quickly begins to unravel. What starts as passion turns into control. What feels like freedom becomes a quiet, dangerous captivity.

Caught in a cycle of devotion, denial, and dependency, and codependency, she loses sight of where he ends… and she begins.

Told with raw honesty and haunting clarity, The Compliant Cowgirl is a powerful journey through codependency, emotional survival, and the painful awakening that comes when you realize:

Sometimes the greatest danger isn’t who you follow…
it’s forgetting who you are.
