Q: What specific challenges in public speaking and audience engagement led you to pursue the Charisma Enhancement® certification under Dr. Richard Bandler?
Katie Hornor: I believe in continuing to better myself for the people I serve. I had heard great things about this speaker training and knew it was time to uplevel my own stage skills. You’re never too old to keep learning or improving.
Q: Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) focuses heavily on the mechanics of human behavior. How does applying NLP techniques directly improve a speaker's non-verbal communication?
Katie Hornor: When you understand more about how the brain works and processes information, or is hindered by distraction, you can deliver a more effective presentation. I really enjoyed what I learned about the brain, body language, body movement and use of the stage to deliver a better presentation.
Q: The certification program covers advanced skills like handling hecklers and controlling crowd energy. Why are these dynamic room-management skills so critical for modern keynote speakers?
Katie Hornor: As a speaker you must be prepared for anything. One never knows when an emergency or other distraction may arise and as the person on stage, you are the one the entire room is looking to for direction. Q: You already bring over 700 hours of stage experience to your work. How has this new training shifted your personal approach to building emotional resonance with a live audience?
Katie Hornor: Emotional connection to your audience can be created in a great number of ways. It’s no longer ok to just use one or two. It’s now necessary to teach multiple learning styles and intelligences. I realize that much of what I incorporate now to connect with my audience is a direct result of this training. It helped me make connections with my audience, look and feel more natural.

Katie Hornor: I’ve recently become the CEO of the National Christian Association of Professional Speakers ( www.NCAPSpeakers.org ) and therefore am able to use what I’ve learned, and teach it, to the speakers I now get to work with in addition to my own coaching, consulting and speaking engagements.
