TOPFAB Launches TF500: A Desktop 5-Axis CNC with AI-generated Workflows for Makers, Engineers, Small Shops, and even ordinary home users

Compact machine combines simultaneous 5-axis motion, 60,000 RPM spindle, 8-tool auto changer, ±0.005 mm positioning repeatability, and AI CAM — starting at $5,799 for early backers.

TOPFAB, a Shanghai-based manufacturer of industrial 5-axis CNC, today introduced the TF500, a desktop CNC machine designed to bring true simultaneous 5-axis machining to workshops, engineering labs, and small-scale production environments.

Unlike 3-axis, 4-axis, or indexed 3+2 systems, the TF500 uses continuous XYZ motion plus dual rotary axes to cut complex geometries, undercuts, and curved surfaces in a single setup. It is aimed at jewelers, prototyping teams, product designers, and makers who need metal-grade precision without the floor space or learning curve of industrial CNC equipment.

“Traditional 5-axis machines are expensive, difficult to program, and locked inside factories,” said Wang, an engineer at TOPFAB. “We wanted to create a system that combines AI-generated workflow, automation, and real machining capability into a platform that makers, professionals, and even ordinary home users can actually use on their desktop.”

AI-CAM, Not Black Magic

TOPFAB has its own AI community that helps users generate models from text or images and then generate toolpaths. Users upload a photo or sketch, the system produces an initial 3D mesh and suggests a roughing toolpath for 5‑axis motion. All suggestions can be reviewed and edited before machining.

TOPFAB has its own community with a massive model library, and both the quantity and types of models are continuously increasing. It is not a closed ecosystem: the TF500 accepts standard G-code, making it compatible with popular CAM software, including Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, and RhinoCAM. Users can also export toolpaths from their existing workflow.

True Simultaneous 5-Axis Machining

  • Travel: 130 × 170 × 120 mm
  • Dual rotary axes: ±360° (C) / -110° to +110° (A)
  • Positional repeatability: ±0.005 mm
  • Rotary accuracy: ±10 arcsec

The machine handles complex parts — jewelry rings, watch cases, small molds, sculptures, and functional prototypes — in one clamping operation, reducing repositioning errors and improving surface finish.

Desktop Friendly, Real Material Capable

  • Spindle: 60,000 RPM
  • Tool changer: 8-tool automatic (vision-assisted tool recognition)
  • Work envelope: Φ120 × 100 mm (max)
  • Tool shanks: 4 mm and 6 mm
  • Cooling: Thermoelectric and liquid dual cooling system
  • Weight: 75 kg (machine) / 10 kg (control box)

The TF500 cuts a wide range of materials, including:
