The fitness industry changes quickly. Training methods, educational standards, and student expectations look very different today than they did three decades ago. Certification organizations must update their programs to stay relevant. They must also ensure their visual identity reflects those modern standards to build trust with new students and fitness employers.
W.I.T.S. Education recently introduced a new logo to mark its 32nd year in the fitness industry. The organization updated its brand to match its shift toward modern, virtual instructor-led training. We spoke with the leadership team to discuss this visual update, their practical approach to education, and what this rebrand means for the future of their certification programs.
Q: What specific changes in the fitness industry prompted you to introduce a new logo after 32 years?
W.I.T.S. Education: We expanded our hands-on in-person classes to Hybrid and then even further to Virtual to give adult learners, as fitness enthusiasts, an opportunity to learn their way for today’s world.
Q: Your organization focuses heavily on practical, instructor-led training. How does this new visual identity represent that educational approach?
W.I.T.S. Education: Our new logo represents a fresh modern educational impression to stand out from the old norms.
Q: Rebranding an established company carries some risk. How did you ensure the new logo maintains the trust you built over three decades?
W.I.T.S. Education: We shared our updated mission through multiple channels but in particular with our higher learning institutional partners of colleges and universities. I believe our health occupation is more than a weekend warrior course or online open book test. Our direction to protect the public at large stands out with this new clean look.
Q: W.I.T.S. Education recently expanded its virtual learning options. Did this shift in how you deliver courses influence the new design?
W.I.T.S. Education: The new virtual learning allows more to participate with real in-person teachers who respond in real time vs. a canned online program. Students can easily clear up gray areas of how the body functions under the stresses of exercise and more importantly learn to apply the knowledge under the watchful eye of a veteran in the field.
Q: Employers rely on your certifications to hire capable trainers. What feedback have you received from health clubs regarding your updated brand?
W.I.T.S. Education: We consistently get requests for new grads from the large box gyms to the mom and pop health clubs. They appreciate that our grads are tested in written core knowledge and must pass a practical skills exam as well. Our grads prove they can perform in the field or they do not get our credentials. No other fitness certification in the industry requires a practical skill exam. The standard is watered down and is a big hole in the fitness industry which is propagated by the large equity firms buying out many of the big certification groups.
Q: What are the immediate next steps for W.I.T.S. Education as you roll out this new brand across your college and university partnerships?
W.I.T.S. Education: We are going to open up a “consumer division” to provide current mini webinars, blogs and other avenues for the public at large to train themselves and their families safer and better. Those fitness enthusiasts are likely to appreciate our additional professional approach to health and fitness and come to us to excel.
Our discussion showed that a logo redesign is more than a cosmetic update. For an established certification provider, a rebrand signals a direct commitment to modern education. It shows students and employers that the organization continues to adapt its training methods to meet current industry demands.
The need for qualified, well-trained fitness professionals will continue to grow. Educational organizations that update both their curriculum and their brand identity give students a clear advantage in the job market. W.I.T.S. Education provides a practical foundation for trainers entering the modern workforce.
